About the Museum:
Take a seat on a giant tooth inside an enormous mouth, walk through a 10-foot brain alive with electrical activity, peer inside a colossal eyeball or stand beneath a 22-foot-long backbone with ribs descending from the ceiling to the floor.  These are just a few of the experiences in store for those who visit The Health Museum, located in the heart of Houston’s Museum District.

The Jim Hickox Amazing Body Pavilion exhibit is the highlight of this family-focused interactive health science center, where visitors can take a fantastic larger-than-life tour of the human body.  This 7,400-square-foot walk-through exhibit contains huge sculptures of human organs; interactive audio and video kiosks and hands-on exhibits that dramatically communicate health and wellness information about the human body.

In the John P. McGovern Theater, a wide variety of entertaining and stimulating programs including unique videos, plays, puppet shows, lectures and panel discussions are presented for the general public. Science classes featuring health and wellness information add to this unique experience that has made The Health Museum one of the premiere health museums in the country.

Since opening its doors on March 16, 1996, the Museum has hosted more than 1.5 million visitors. Each year, approximately 45,000 schoolchildren visit the Museum, many of whom will participate in fun, hands-on science programs taught by professional health educators. Families also have the opportunity to have fun learning together when they take part in hands-on mini-classes offered on a variety of subjects.

The Health Museum is an interactive and entertaining science experience for all ages that promotes understanding and appreciation of the human body, mind and spirit and inspires a lifelong commitment to health and wellness. It is the culmination of a long-time dream of the physicians of the Harris County Medical Society to create a freestanding health education facility for the community, and the Museum has received broad-based support from individuals, corporations, foundations and the medical community at large.
